This
past summer I had the good fortune to sign a multi-book contract with Red Sky
Entertainment, a company that “develops and publishes series from accomplished
authors, and develops them for movies, television, digital media, and
merchandising.” My four-book romantic comedy series, Sunday Cove, was part of
that deal. Red Sky has a keen eye for books that will translate well to film.
Contrary to popular opinion, not all good books do. I discovered that many
years ago when I studied screen writing and started my first book-to-film
screenplay.
Red
Sky Entertainment was founded and is managed by two giants in the entertainment
industry. Myron A. (Micky) Hyman, an entertainment attorney, negotiated film,
television and licensing deals for the wildly popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Jim Rosenfeld is former President of
CBS Television Network, and later Senior Executive VP of the CBS/Broadcast
Group.
And
that’s just the tip of the iceberg for both these extraordinary men. I still pinch myself that they saw the film
potential in a body of work I’ve spent thirty-five years creating. This is a
long-held dream of mine come true! Always, when I write I envision my mind as a
stage and “see” the scenes playing there. I often describe my characters as
people waiting in the wings for their cue to come onstage.
Naughty and Nice is one of my favorite romantic
comedies from my classic collection. I wrote new scenes, created a charming fictional
Mississippi Gulf Coat town, added a host of regular Sunday Cove characters and
created a lovely magical, romantic Legend of the Orange Blossoms to turn Naughty and Nice into Book 1 of my new four-book
Sunday Cove series. I think you will appreciate that I kept the old-fashioned
virtues of compassion, respect, modesty, clean language and closed bedroom
doors.
I
hope you also have fun reading about Holly Jones, a church hostess who is
preparing the Christmas pageant and has no time for love….until the preacher
sends her to welcome an unwelcome newcomer and she gets a whiff of orange
blossoms. Holly is based on my dear friend, Alice Virginia, a flamboyant
red-head who sits beside me every Sunday in the choir loft where we sing first
soprano at our church. Besides my mother, Alice is the only person I’ve ever
been able to snatch from real life and put on the pages of a book. She’s
heavily fictionalized, of course, but she loves to tell folks she’s “Holy
Holly.” And she really did wear that
bed sheet to church and pretend to be an angel. The live nativity actually happened,
too. Wait till you read it. You’re going to laugh aloud. I guarantee it!

That's fantastic news! I think that Jayma Mays is a creat commedy actress.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and commenting, Natalija. Enjoy the book and good luck in the contest.
DeleteNaughty and Nice sounds like a romp. I pictured Elena Satine to play Holly in the movie version!
ReplyDeleteDee, it IS a romp! Thanks for joining our conversation. Enjoy the book and good luck!
DeleteHow about Emma Stone?
ReplyDeleteI can see Emma as Holly Jones. She has that comedic vibe! Thanks for stopping by, Laney. Good luck in the contest.
DeleteMaureen, thanks for hosting me today. It's a pleasure to chat with readers about this holiday romantic comedy from Red Sky. I'll be popping in throughout the day to answer your questions and chat with you. Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteI nominate the fabulous Allison Tolman (currently on ABC's EMERGENCE) to play Holly. And kudos to the network and producers Tara Butters and Seth Barrish for casting a healthy-looking real woman (instead of a skinny model type) to play the lead role in this wonderful new drama.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more, Charlene! My character Holly is a real woman who worries about her weight and her neighbors! She wonders if her new dress makes her look fat but still can't resist having a second doughnut. Many of us can relate! Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteI have no idea who should play the part... not good with names, but this does sound good!
ReplyDeleteColleen, thanks! I hope you enjoy the book!
DeleteIsla Fisher?
ReplyDeleteCould be! Thanks for stopping by and good luck with the contest!
DeleteSounds like a fun read! Not sure who should play the part - have to read the book first.
ReplyDeleteI hope you do, Taurus! it's a fun holiday romp! Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteCongratulations on the film news! Because the story is set in a Mississippi Gulf Town I would say Reese Witherspoon would be a good lead. She has a sweet southern accent. I remember her movie Sweet Home Alabama and she's the first person I thought of for the lead! Good luck to you on this project!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, Reese is a great choice. She lives part-time in Nashville just a moderate drive north of me. With these two powerhouse guys at the helm, I'm certain we will soon be looking forward to seeing just who plays the role of Holly!
DeleteOoooh, red-haired TV actress always makes me go with Alicia Witt. And congratulations for the film news!!!
ReplyDeleteAmi,that's a great idea! I hope we'll all be seeing Alicia or some other great comedic actress in the role of Holly in the near future. I'm so happy to be part of the Red Sky team, and I expect great things to come!
