I love the beach (which is why I live in Florida, just a few
miles from the Gulf of Mexico), and really love beach dates. That’s why I set
my Fortune’s Island series on a fictional island off the coast of
Massachusetts. Can’t Get Over You
features a fun little bar named The Love Shack and plenty of beach date scenes.
If you’re thinking of taking a special someone to the beach, here’s a few
ideas:
1.
A picnic: I’ve gone on dates before where we
drive the SUV onto the beach, open up the back, spread out a blanket and have a
picnic while we watch the sun set. A little wine, some sandwiches, and you’ve
got all the makings of a nice romantic evening.
2.
Kayaking at midnight: Hands-down, this has been
one of the most romantic things I’ve ever done. We went out on the water at
midnight, on a clear, starry night, and kayaked to a little sandbar. We were
the only ones there, which made it ten times more romantic.
3.
Sailing: There’s nothing like getting out on the
water with just your sweetie and a sailboat. The sailboat is quieter than a
motorboat, and if the wind is right, you can zip all over the bay. If sailing
isn’t your thing, try kayaking. It’s easy for pretty much anyone to do, and
allows you to pull up to any small island or sandbar and hop out to explore.
4.
Shell Hunting: Okay, so maybe the guys won’t
find this as fun, but we have gone shell hunting before on long, long walks on
the beach. We’ll stop to skip stones or check out conch shells, or just to
watch the sunset together.
5.
Homemade Beach: If you don’t live near the
beach, set up a beach tableau on your living room carpet. Put on some calypso
music, spread out a couple beach towels and a picnic dinner. Pour some
margaritas, and maybe apply a little cocoa butter to get that at-the-beach
scent in the air. Before you know it, you’ll feel like you’re on vacation! (and
maybe read passages of Can’t Get Over You
to each other, to add a little romance to the picture!).

His voice pierced the darkest corners of her heart.
Waitress Jillian Matheson needs a life makeover. The first thing on her “Get it Together” to-do list is breaking up with her fiancĂ©, Zach Gifford, a struggling rocker who refuses to grow up. With Zach on the sidelines, Jillian pursues the dream career she’s secretly craved for decades and finds romance in the arms of a hot, mysterious visitor on Fortune’s Island. There’s just one kink in her plans. Zach’s band has a regular gig at The Love Shack where she works. And, she can’t deny the effect of his velvet-cloaked voice, a voice that can still reach places she no longer allows his hands to touch.
She’s the only song he ever wanted to sing.
Zach thought he had everything figured out—a music career on the edge of a breakthrough and a gorgeous fiancĂ©—until Jillian left her engagement ring on his amp one night and walked out of his life. He is sure that he can get her to remember their shared passion and realize that they belong together, until a new man enters the picture and begins to sway Jillian’s heart.
Is it ever too late for true love?
Just as Zach begins to break down Jillian’s walls of resistance, a dark secret from his past comes to light and threatens to ruin their second chance at love. With shattered trust pushing them farther away from each other than ever before, can these two wounded hearts find their way back to each other before the last song?

My all time favorite beach is Panama City Beach. I love the clear, green/blue water and white sand beach. I've had stingrays swim between my legs and a sea turtle come to check me out.
ReplyDeleteMy perfect beach date would be an all night wine, snacks, talk with periods of silence to listen to the waves until the sun rises.
I like to play in the water at the beach but I don't like it so deep that I HAVE to swim. That's too much work and I'm there to relax. I also like to take a picnic and a book, of course.
ReplyDeleteI've been to the Atlantic beach in Virginia but I was a child so I don't remember. I saw the Pacific from the highway in LA but didn't get out on the sand. Maybe one day I'll actually walk in the sand on a beach.
