Annie's Typical Day...

Hi and thanks for having me. I’m Annie Seaton and this is my third year of writing. I live with my husband, and ‘Bob’ the dog and two white cats in a house next to the beach on the east coast of Australia. I sit in my writing chair, gazing at the ocean and writing stories.

Our two children are grown and married and I love spending time gardening, walking on the beach and spoiling my two grandchildren when I’m not writing. I’ve always been fascinated by all things romantic and have found my niche in life writing romance novels, ranging from contemporary to paranormal with a foray into steampunk!

I wanted to tell you about my typical day…and what you need to do to succeed as a writer in these days of digital publishing and social networking.

I have to check all my email and social networking notifications the instant I get out of bed and then I make coffee! Most of my mail and work arrives while I am asleep. Whatever comes in, sets the structure for the day.

Then I sit down and read over the total work I am currently writing. Yes... from the very beginning, every day. So by the time I finish writing a book... it may have had thirty full edits! By the time the read through and light edit is complete, I am totally immersed in my scenes and characters and I put my fingers to the keyboard and I write.

I used to write in a chair overlooking the ocean, but I found it became too distracting. Now after being contracted and on strict schedules, I make myself work at my desk all day. I have regular morning tea and lunch breaks just as I would if I was working in the outside world.

I am one of those lucky people for whom the words just flow. Once I get in the zone, and totally immersed in the story, my fingers have trouble getting the words down quickly enough!

I now have contracted books ahead and edits due so I have to be very disciplined. Over the past couple of months, I have found myself not leaving the house for 4 or 5 days at a time.

And I love it! However when the girls from my local writing group ring up for a lunch date, it is a welcome break!

So my advice to writers who are serious about writing as a career... treat it as a real job. Have a workspace and have a routine, and most of all be disciplined!

Mixing business with pleasure never felt so right.

Blake Buchanan and Anastasia Delaney were roommates in college and could never see eye to eye about anything. The only time their walls came down was during one night of passion before Ana left without a word, never expecting to cross paths with Blake again.

Years later, Blake has made his millions. He comes back to Ana’s small California town to manage a corporate takeover that will close down the home restoration business she’s poured her heart and soul into. The fiery Ana is determined to convince money-minded Blake of her business’s worth, but when a family emergency throws them together, their walls come tumbling down once again…

Problem is, Blake’s business-first position hasn’t changed. And Ana can’t fall for the man who could become her boss—it’s not only her job at stake, but her heart.

When she is not writing she can be found in her garden or walking on the beach... or most likely on her deck overlooking the ocean, a chilled glass of wine in hand as the sun sets.
