Congratulations to "Amy R.", the winner of Fiona's giveaway. Thank you to all who participated!
“Never work with animals or children,” so said the comedian,
W.C Fields. As an author, I sometimes feel the same way. Once I wrote a book
with toddler triplets (Single Dad’s Triple
Trouble) and they took over the book! Every time I had a scene with the
children, I had to have three on the page and chaos reigned but I guess it does
with triplets in real life.
You would have thought I had learned my lesson but in my
current novel, Picture Perfect Wedding, but
I have cute dogs, newborn calves, a entire herd of dairy cows and an
eight-year-old! And I have family. Family can be the best and the worst things
in our lives. Luke Anderson loves his family, but sometimes their strong
opinions get in the way of his life. As a sixth-generation farmer, he always
thought he wanted to take over the family farm. Suddenly, he’s not so sure and
the family farm’s future is in jeopardy. So his summer is not going as well as
it could so lucky for him, he can distract himself with Erin, the
geographically-challenged wedding photographer from Minneapolis. Erin gets lost
standing still.

Here's
the blurb...
Erin Davis will do whatever it takes to be the
photographer for high-end brides. So what if capturing the moments of people’s
lives means she has no time for her own. Nothing will get between her and the
security she craves, not even the gorgeous farmer refusing to let her shoot in
his sunflowers.
His family has always been tied to the land, but lately Luke Anderson feels more like he’s chained. While he ponders his future, he still has cows to milk and no time to deal with Erin or Bridezillas in his fields. Yet there’s something about the sexy city girl he can’t say no to. So he says yes: just this once.
With the town in need of a photographer, Erin agrees
to spend wedding season in Whitetail. The sparks flying between her and Luke
quickly ignite, but just as Erin starts to picture her own happy ending, Luke
takes a gamble that could risk it all…

Fortunately I seem to have inherited my mother's keen sense of direction so getting lost is a rarity for me. However, wouldn't you know the one time I got hopelessly lost was when I was listening to an audiobook, Jean Auel's Valley of the Horses. I was so upset about the storyline I lost my way going to my high school reunion in Williamsburg, Virginia. I looked up and had no clue as to where I was and it was pitch black dark. This was in my hometown territory and it was embarrassing. I ended up having to call my Mom to have her lead me in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteFigured it had to involve a book:). By the way, I'm pretty excited about your series.

Jonetta, a good book can be VERY distracting!
DeleteI'm the complete opposite of Jonetta. I get lost all the time (well, until I've been in an area a while). I remember several times going north on a highway, turning around, going south, turning around, going north again... I have no directional instincts.
ReplyDeleteAbigail, you sound just like Erin, the heroine in Picture Perfect Wedding!
DeleteI normally don't have a problem getting around.. and if i don't know where I'm going i print directions out (cause I don't have a smart phone, my family calls my phone "A dumb phone"). Your books sound interesting :) krisrich85 at ymail dot com
ReplyDeleteLOL, I have a dumb phone too, Kris. I have a GPS but often use the old fashioned road map!
DeleteHi Fiona,
ReplyDeleteI love your series--love the whole premise, love that your heroine comes from my hometown of Minneapolis :-) I'm pretty good with directions, less good with maps, although better with real maps than the Google versions. And, I've gotten more lost using my GPS than just winging it on my own--oddly enough. Then again, we're talking about me and technology, which I can stop like some people stop clocks and watches!
Best of luck with your book and the whole series. Can't wait to read this new one!
Thanks Lizbeth. Yes, GPS can get us into trouble which is exactly what happened to Erin!
DeleteHi Fiona - I feel I have gotten lost emotionally. Right after I had kids I think I went through a period where I was lost as to who I was and what my purpose in life was (other than to be a wife and mom). I just didn't have myself anymore. I eventually found myself again. As for geographically, not that I can think of. I haven't traveled a lot and when I did it was always with other people.
ReplyDeleteYour books sounds great. I still have Boomerang Bride on my Nook that I haven't read yet and you have published some more since then so I need to get reading! Thanks and congrats on your book!

Amy, some women do experience that sort of feeling after having kids. I was lucky...I had my wilderness experience just trying to have them so when they finally made it into my life, I was very ready. I'm glad you've found yourself again now.
DeleteYes, absolutely I've been lost several times in my life. I lost my confidence in late elementary school and it took me years to figure out who I am and what was important to me (late 20s). Later I felt lost when I first got married, as I didn't realise there were so many cultural expectations on me and I had to find my own way and self worth. I've felt lost searching for jobs and a happy career path, of which I am still searching now but I feel getting closer to my dreams. Finally, when my Mom passed away suddenly I felt so heartbroken and lost without her support and love and now with a little one on the way, I've had to find support. Thanks for reading and the chance to win Twitter fan@plumerea
ReplyDeleteI think there are times in our life when we all feel lost and the key is getting support and a guiding light so we can find our way again. I hope that's happening for you.
DeleteA key thing to a perfect wedding is to act like nothing is going wrong or is out of place. That was the advice I told my sister (the bride)when she was about to lose it.
